Hydrogen is safer than Natural Gas. This is contrary to popular opinion which may have been formed by the many myths surrounding hydrogen, possibly developed to discourage and curtail the use of hydrogen as a fuel (by interests aligned with conventional energy supply). And many have witnessed historical news reports of the legendary explosion and destruction of the airship, Hindenburg, erroneously blamed on hydrogen gas. However, the fact is that hydrogen is safer than hydrocarbon fuels for a number of reasons.
- Natural gas is a heavy molecule compared to oxygen, so it sinks to the ground and spreads out when accidentally released, and must be allowed to vent off slowly or blown away with safety fans.
- Hydrogen, on the other hand, is so much lighter than oxygen so, even in event of accidental release, hydrogen would rise very rapidly and be dispersed harmlessly into the air.
- In home applications, a ceiling vent above both the NOHRMAN H+e System and the hydrogen storage tanks would vent any hydrogen release straight up and safely out of the home.
- Relative to automobiles, gasoline spills take hours to dissipate, while hydrogen is gone in seconds.
Typical Hydrogen Storage in a Vehicle
Regulatory standards in many government agencies control how gas applications are regulated in the home, in personal and commercial vehicles, or elsewhere, and these standards serve to protect the consumer. Tests have shown that approved storage tanks for hydrogen (like the one shown in a vehicle above) are safe and reliable. DiAxiom, nonetheless, will adopt stringent guidelines and controls that exceed normal standards, and thereby ensure the safe use of the NOHRMAN system by DiAxiom customers. These same safety measures would be assumed by all channels established by DiAxiom, responsible for distribution, installation and servicing of NORHMAN.
