The theory surrounding lightning and thunderstorm development has arisen over centuries of scientific observation and study. Everyone knows the story of Benjamin Franklin and his kite flying experiment with the key. Current theory was developed in the late seventies and early eighties by a host of researchers worldwide, but most notably through the research done by NASA and several Florida Universities.
This research showed the link between ice crystals and lightning; and through significant experiments, it was illustrated that the collisions of ice and graupel, or slush, was the primary cause of lightning. This is a valid theory as far as it goes, however, it is our belief (NEW THEORY) that it falls short by not recognizing that ice is more likely charged in a storm as a result of a chemical reaction; not collisions of ice particles. We recognize that science is always a building process in terms of knowledge and discovery, and were it not for the earlier scientific theories surrounding lightning and ice particles, the DiAxiom theory would not have emerged.
