Why does energy not balance?
Today's accepted theory of the thunderstorm process exhibits one notable weakness - the energy balance of a thunderstorm is not consistent with the laws of thermodynamics as the amount of energy inputted into the storm does not match the energy output of the storm plus the work done by the storm. This is one of the mysteries of the thunderstorm process and is seldom discussed but must be resolved if we are to truly understand how a thunderstorm functions.
